Asili

Asili is a concept from the scholar Marimba Ani for the cultural seed a society grows from — the deep, often unspoken assumptions out of which its ways of thinking and feeling develop. A culture has an asili the way a plant has a seed: everything that grows carries the logic of what it grew from, which is why a culture, and the tools that measure it, are never neutral.

Because a seed is hardest to see from inside the plant, a culture's assumptions feel like plain reality rather than choices. For CultureROOTS, understanding asili is why the framework is grounded in a life-giving seed and why it illuminates by invitation — a worldview can only be seen once another is set beside it.
