MyCompass
From reading to response
MyCompass is the CultureROOTS response layer — the companion to MySignal that turns the reading into grounded next steps at the level that is actually yours to reach.
MyCompass is the part of CultureROOTS that turns the reading into a response. It is the companion to MySignal: where the Signal shows you what is true right now, the Compass takes that same picture and turns it toward what you might tend next. Where the Signal is a mirror, the Compass is a doorway.
The Compass does not begin with a new round of questions. It is drawn from the Signal you already have, which is why the reading comes first and is allowed to stand on its own before anything is asked of you.
What the Compass weighs
A response is only useful if it is fair to the person being asked to act. So before it suggests anything, MyCompass weighs three things together: what you reach for, what your setting is actually giving back, and what is genuinely within your power to move.
Holding these three together is what keeps the guidance honest. A next step that ignores your conditions asks you to push against a wall. A next step that ignores your power asks you to carry what is not yours to carry. By weighing desire, conditions, and what is actually yours to move at the same time, the Compass offers moves that are both meaningful and possible, in the place where what you bring is meeting conditions that do not yet hold it.
Next steps at the level that is yours
Not everything a reading surfaces sits at the same level, and MyCompass is careful about this. Some of what it offers is a move you can make yourself. Some of it lives in a relationship — a conversation, a boundary, a request. And some of it belongs to the systems around you, which no single person can move alone.
So the Compass sorts its guidance across three levels: yourself, your relationships, and the wider system. Each next step is offered at whatever level is actually yours to reach, which is the practical form of a principle that runs through the whole framework — that responsibility should sit where the power to change something actually lives. This is the locus of agency made usable, and it is also Ubuntu made usable: your part is real, and it is never the whole.
Grounded in the principles
MyCompass is organized by the seven principles of Ma'at, because a next step means more when it is rooted in something older than a productivity tip. Rather than handing you a long list, the Compass takes the places where the reading showed strain and turns each one, one at a time, toward a grounded practice — a small, real thing to begin, connected to the principle underneath it. The point is a place to start, not a program to complete.
A doorway, not a demand
The stance of MyCompass matters as much as its content. It does not ask you to fix everything, and it does not ask you to fix anything alone. It meets you where what you value is running up against conditions that do not yet hold it, and for each of those places it offers one grounded place to begin.
This is the fourth movement of the CultureROOTS journey, the one Sankofa calls Regenerate: after remembering what you value, seeing how you move, and gathering it all into your Signal, the Compass turns the whole reading toward what might grow from here. A mirror shows you where you are. A doorway shows you that there is somewhere to go, and that the first step is smaller and more possible than the whole picture can make it feel.
How MyCompass lives in CultureROOTS
Signal and Compass are two halves of one motion. The Signal protects the truth of the reading by staying a mirror and refusing to rush you toward action. The Compass protects your agency by making sure the action, when it comes, is fair, grounded, and sized to what is actually yours. Together they carry a person from seeing clearly to moving wisely, without ever pretending that one person is responsible for a whole culture.
The reading was never meant to end at recognition. What you can see, you can begin to tend. MyCompass is where the seeing turns, gently, into the next right move.
